8.8 Earthquake in Chile

I am just sharing with you an article

At least 78 killed as huge 8.8 quake rocks Chile

SANTIAGO — A huge 8.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Chile early on Saturday killing at least 78 people, toppling buildings and triggering a tsunami threatening the Pacific rim of fire, officials said.

The massive quake plunged much of the Chilean capital, Santiago, into darkness as it snapped power lines and severed communications.

AFP journalists spoke of walls and masonry collapsing while people in pyjamas fled onto the streets.

Television images showed destroyed or heavily damaged buildings and debris-strewn streets.

Residents in the south of the city, which appeared to have borne the brunt of the quake, said roads had crumpled and a bridge had been damaged, as an AFP correspondent said buildings "shook like jelly."

A partial evacuation of Easter Island has been ordered in Chile in the face of possible big tidal waves, President Michelle Bachelet announced.

She also said two ships with aid had been dispatched to Robinson Crusoe Island, part of the Juan Fernandez Archipelago, which has been affected by a big tidal wave.

Japan's meteorological agency warned of a tsunami risk across large areas of the Pacific including as far away as the Antarctic, as the Philippines warned low-lying coastal areas to prepare for possible evacuation.

Australia and New Zealand issued tsunami alerts while Russia said it was monitoring the risk.

The tremor struck at 3:34 am local time (0634 GMT) when many Chileans were still in nightclubs partying at the start of the weekend.

It was swiftly followed by a series of aftershocks ranging from 5.6 to 6.9 on the Moment Magnitude Scale.

Bachelet and her officials rushed to their offices to coordinate disaster relief, state television said, as the powerful aftershocks panicked the quake-prone Latin American country.

"With the quake of this magnitude and given its timing, we cannot rule out other casualties," Bachelet said as first reports came in of deaths.

Santiago lies 325 kilometers (200 miles) northeast of the epicenter of the quake, which hit at a depth of 35 kilometers (21.7 miles).

It struck 100 kilometers (60 miles) northwest of the Chilean town of Chillan, the US Geological Survey said, and 115 kilometers (70 miles) northeast of Concepcion, a city of about a million people.

"Sea level readings confirm that a tsunami has been generated which could cause widespread damage," the US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

Authorities should take "appropriate action," it added, but said the warning did not apply to the west coast of the United States.

"There is a possibility that tsunami will widely occur in the Pacific Ocean," an official for the Japanese meteorological agency said as Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines also issued warnings.

Asian nations have been on heightened alert ever since a massive 2004 tsunami that killed more than 220,000 people around the Indian Ocean.

Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama ordered his government to be prepared to offer support for victims if necessary, Jiji Press reported.

"Swift action should be required," Hatoyama told reporters. "It appears to be fairly sizable. I told ministries concerned to be ready to take measures in case relief assistance is needed."

The European Union said it stood ready to provide immediate and coordinated aid for victims.

US seismologists had initially put the magnitude of the tremor at 8.5 but later adjusted it upwards to 8.8.

Earthquake-prone Chile lies along the Pacific rim of fire and is regularly rocked by quakes, but damage is often limited as they mostly hit in desert regions which are sparsely populated.

In May 1960 the country was ravaged what is now known as Valdivia or Great Chilean Earthquake, which was rated 9.5 on the moment magnitude scale.

The resulting tsunami affected southern Chile, Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, reaching as far as eastern New Zealand and southeast Australia.

The estimated death toll from that disaster ranged from over 2,200 to 5,700.

Taal inna de air

Costume
I played in Taal Frontline with a backpack.. My costume was gorgeous it was well worked up including my bra which was “the own bra option.” I must thank Tisha Neilson who offered to cover my black bra because I was not finding the right shade of purple. The backpack was not exactly what I expected (somehow I thought it would have had wires lol lol lol) but it was gorgeous. The brighter royal purple and the fuchsia pink look fabulous in the sun and I would admit I love

Collection
I collected my costume in less than 5 minutes on the first day of collection and there was just a trickle of people. The goody bag was enough nothing too elaborateWhat annoyed me was the wrong spelling in the booklet…..”incourage” “ad here”…IP spell check was tooooo muchWhat was funny in the booklet…….they suggested you get a “me 2, bmobile off course”……IP big plug for the sponsors

Carnival Monday

The Good
The vibes was nice nice nice, plenty jamishness, the dj was on point and the performances on the road was mad.swappi, shurwayne Winchester , Zuki and Tim Tim (Zuki nearly fall off the truck lol lol lol lmao). The pholurie and chutney sauce was a hit and a big hit tooThe BadThe cloth was not a good idea in my humble opinion, I didn’t know what to do with it but I must admit that there were some very creative people in IP. The 5 o’clock lunch was TERRIBLE

The Ugly
Why the hell ¾ of the band needed to be by DJ Trevlyn truck…..ok I know that that was the truck with all the performances but gosh whole day alyuh screaming for Trevlyn sooooo. Then there was Busy Signal, beginning was on point but the dancehall vibes in meh soca is ah big no no no no no. Ok then the band run out of water……I had to ask if WASA was limiting the water supplied to the band

Carnival Tuesday

The Good

Ah the big day had arrive, jamishness palance palance gosh it had serious vibes, costumes were beautiful, taal was hotttttttt, mudra was also adorable, japuir, the yellow, white and the black also looked stunning, morgandi although very simple was “dressed up” by several masqueraders, bindi was nice too, the other costumes was kinda blank but chutney baav was my least favourite. Frontliners came out deck down with boots and makeup.I loved the security details at the savannah where they allowed frontline with backpack to cross then other frontliners and the backliners but as usual there are some people that don’t care about these logistics hmmm.

The Bad

Salty Peleau and once again they run outa water oh gosh I really had to ask if WASA give alyuh ah limit.Young ladies Trevlyn truck was not the only truck gosh

The Ugly

Why did IP run down the avenue early in the morning so hmmmmm I had to wonder if that was to get in front of Tribe to cross the stage

The tooooo wild

Ok Island people have some ridiculous women that turned the snack truck into the slack truck…..a strong handsome man winning on the truck and some women wine on the man till they pulll of the dhoti hmmmmm pure slackness lol lol lol and what was worst the group of men standing nearby that was laughing get pants too lmao but they feel real bad and the women involved was vicious with it.

My summary of it all

All in all with all the ups and downs of the two day I felt like my costume, what I ate and drank and the palance that I palance was well worth $4600.00

Now I’m like a roast chicken recovering

Four Days to go

Four Days to go

So I collected my costume on Saturday and my my my it is adorable pics were suppose to be available but due to unforeseen circumstances they will be available at a later date

Where my Taal people dey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gosh still have plenty to do

I was robbed

So my house was broken into on Friday 05th February, 2010 between 7:00 pm and 9:30 pm. I couldn’t believe that I would be a target, I would be a victim and in my own home too, what makes it worst it’s in a rural area. Moving along from this is hard, the material things I lost the sentimental things and of course my school work. Today so many people feel that society owes something to them because of their “circumstances” steups I have circumstances too. It wasn’t easy spending sleepless nights studying so that I can make an honesty dollar to purchase the things that I need and want. So to the person that has may dell inspiron9400 God Bless you and may he lead you on the right part. To the young men that committed the act of major distress, I wish that you all will come forward and give your selves up. I know that that is wishing too much but I choose to forgive you and hope that God bless you and guide you on the right part.

Country mouse vs City rat

Rural vs Urban
Country vs Town
North vs South
East vs West
Gully vs Gaza

It’s all a different experience. Somebody once asked me how it feels to be from Central in the country, from a far far far village but yet still mistaken for a city chick.
Mix and match how many can do it …….know how to operate when?????

Ever been to Chaguanas market early Saturday Morning and hear some one say “ Good morning madam can I ask how much is a pound of tomatoes” and then the market lady say 25 dollars. Then somebody else say “ Tanty how much for that pound ah tomatoes” and the market lady reply “10 dollars betty” hmmmmmm stark difference.

Nevertheless please don’t go to Hyatt for breakfast and say “ah tanty I want that curl up bread with ham and cheese” lol lol lol… Pleas say madam can I have the croissants with ham and cheese please

Some people say it’s pretending to be something you’re not. I say it’s all about knowing how to operate when. This is extremely important in any aspect of life especially in this the carnival season. Hmmmmmmm So I can be Sophisticated Tash Mc Fash or I can Be the Colourful Cuss bud from the country.

Where do I see myself in the next 5,10,15 years?????

I guess this is a question that all young people ask themselves but real where will I be. Trinidad and Tobago has given me the opportunity to go to school, educate myself as a woman, work in one of the premier state companies, receive a salary above the average salary for some one my age yet still I ask the question where will I be?????

I have so many paths before that I can take but which one will fulfill me as a person as a Trinidadian as a Caribbean woman and as the woman I want to be………hmmmmmm

Why are we so anger?????????????

Today is February 01st 2010 and thus far there has been about 40 murders in Trinidad for the year and so many robberies, rapes, gang violence, drive by shot outs and stabbings. One of the most horrific in my humble opinion was the stabbing at St Augustine Secondary School where two young ladies battled. Imagine at the age of 14 and 15 stabbing someone 22 times, not 1, not 2, not 3 but 22 times. How much anger can one young girl have to stab another young girl 22 times???????

So today I ask the question is our Trinidadian and Tobagonian society an angry society????? Are our children, the future leaders of our country angry??????? What are we so angry at???????? How was this anger developed??????? And what are our adults, leaders, those in authority doing for the youths of Trinidad and Tobago to promote this anger????? Seriously why are we so angry???????

The population of Trinidad and Tobago is approximately 1.5 million people with a GDP of $28.65 billion (2009 est.). Our labour force is estimated at 629,000 (2009 est.) furthermore there is an unemployment rate of 7.5 (2009 est.) while 17% of the population is below the poverty line. Religiously speaking, there are Roman Catholic 26%, Hindu 22.5%, Anglican 7.8%, Baptist 7.2%, Pentecostal 6.8%, Muslim 5.8%, Seventh Day Adventist 4%, other Christian 5.8%, other 10.8%, unspecified 1.4%, none 1.9% (2007 est). Therefore the society that comprises what is Trinidad and Tobago has some economic wealth and religious background. So what is pushing us to be so angry????

In my opinion our social background, family life and structure, what parents teach and don’t teach there children, the entertainment that we entertain in terms of movies, shows and music and last but certainly not least the fact that the Trinidadian and Tobagonian society has lost it own identity. Yes I said it we have lost our identity, we are move Jamaican than the Jamaicans, we are more American than the American and we are more European than the Europeans. Ponder on what I just said look around you and you will see what I mean, in fact take a good hard long look in the mirror. hmmmmmmmmmm

Cloth Cloth Cloth

so IP giving cloth hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

what to do with all that cloth
